Energy Healing: More Than What Meets The Eye

Updated: Jul 29, 2021

Exploring the complementary modalities of healing - Reiki, crystals, reflexology and sound healing

Energy healing is a holistic practice where healers can channel healing energy into an individual and activate subtle energy systems. These treatments promote self-healing by ensuring the body is relaxed and releases any blocks of energy that may have accumulated.

Scientific discoveries are happening every single day. Interestingly, some discoveries explain traditional applications that have been practiced for hundreds or even thousands of years. For example, meditation and yoga: we are now seeing scientific explanations around neuroplasticity of the brain - essentially that meditation can help rewire the brain - and the positive physical, emotional and mental health benefits of yoga.

So how do we explain ‘vibes’ or energy when something or someone feels off or feels right? The guide of our intuition? More and more research is coming into the light, measuring energy at the quantum level and explaining the power of our minds and hearts, and how we are all connected. Either way, we don't need to be physicists to know 'it' exists.

People are looking for other ways to heal regardless of science proving that healing can also come from within. More and more information is helping people discern for themselves and becoming aware of alternative approaches that have positive results - that there’s more than what meets the eye.

Even though there are many that believe that if it can’t be measured it doesn’t exist, it’s really a matter of science catching up. Check out this blog on three individuals that are exploring the science.

People of all backgrounds and beliefs that have experienced energy healing often share that they felt something was missing from their conventional health practices and sought out ways to heal holistically; they’re looking for alternative modalities to help them physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

So what kind of energy modalities are out there? How is energy healing helping people?

Here are some of the more commonly known modalities and their benefits:

  • Reiki: Through the laying of the hands on the body's energy centres, also known as chakras, it helps to heal and balance all levels of the body – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The purpose of a Reiki treatment is to help ease tension, stress, anxiety and support the body in facilitating its own healing process; helping the recipient to let go of that which no longer serves them. What's so beautiful about this modality is that it doesn't have to be done in person, which is most relevant during these times of social distancing.

  • Crystals: Gems, semi-precious and precious stones have been used for centuries to ward off illness and negative energy, as well as for healing, well-being and protection. There are thousands of crystals in the world all holding various properties for wellbeing. Crystals that are the colour associated with one of the seven major chakras can be used in a healing session on that particular energy centre to augment healing in addition to other modalities like reiki, reflexology and sound healing.

  • Reflexology: Like Acupuncture, the premise is that our energy (Chi/Qi) flows along pathways known as meridians. Disruptions in this flow are said to cause pain, illness, disease and lack of overall vitality. By using pressure and various finger and thumb techniques at identifiable points on the feet, reflexology has been shown to break up blockages to help bring the flow back into balance. The overall purpose of the treatment is to reduce stress, increase circulation, and help facilitate the body’s natural abilities to balance these systems and return to a state of homeostasis.

  • Sound healing: Resonance is the vibratory frequency of all that surrounds us. As we learn in basic biology, everything in the entire Universe is in a state of vibration, including us. We may feel out of alignment if we are not resonating or vibrating in harmony with ourselves or our surroundings. Sound is measured in terms of Frequency or Hertz (Hz). Using drums, singing bowls, chimes, gongs, tuning forks and other instruments with a particular Hz resonance can provide healing frequencies to the physical, and subtle energy centres and fields on and around the body.

The best thing to do is try it and see for yourself if there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to healing from within.
